What the extension does
Independent TOU advice for Malaysian households — compares TNB electricity bills under Domestic General and Domestic TOU tariffs using actual half-hourly usage data.
TNB's Time-of-Use tariff has been available to Domestic customers for a while now, but the decision of whether to switch is genuinely difficult. Your bill depends on when you use electricity, not just how much. A household that runs the air-conditioning heavily in the afternoon pays very differently under TOU than one that runs it at night. TNB's own website offers a general guide, but it cannot tell you what your specific half-hourly usage pattern means for your specific bill. That gap is what Hero Tenaga TOU Advisor was built to close.
The extension was published by Hero Tenaga and is open-source on GitHub, so anyone can read the code and verify exactly what it does. The calculation methodology follows TNB's RP4 tariff schedule, with AFA prorated by calendar days in the same way TNB's own calculator handles it. The first version was built after the publisher spent several evenings trying to work out manually whether switching was worth it, found the arithmetic genuinely tedious, and decided to automate it. The 5.0 rating on the Chrome Web Store reflects feedback from users who found the same calculation difficult to do by hand.
